Introduction: Many of you army aspirants would like to know which all academies are there in India to join armed forces as an Officer. Well I have listed main academies with what kind of entries are thre in those academies. So following are the academies:

1. NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY(NDA)
2. INDIAN MILITIARY ACADEMY(IMA)
3. OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMY(OTA)

NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY

• Located in Pune- Khadakwasala
• Tri service academy- it is an academy which trains cadets for airforce, army and navy. Cadet opt for one of the service in the enternce form of upsc exam for the NDA.How to apply online for nda enterance exam
• Training- in NDA training is for 3 years after that cadet goes to the airforce, military or naval academy according to the choice he opted for in the nda enterance exam. It is a myth that cadet directly get commisioned from NDA. No this is wrong. Cadets passout from NDA and goes to the academies I mentioned. For example cadet x opted for army in his enternce form of nda. He gets training of army in nda then pass out from nda after 3 years and then goes to INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY(IMA)  get training for 1 more year and then get commisioned from IMA to various units in army. Same is the procedure for airforce and naval cadets as they go to their academies.
• Training at academy is difficult and hard so it should be. As cadet is going to become Officer of Indian Armed Forces.
  
• Adventure- there is alot of adventure in nda also. Cadet can learn various games and sports. Boxing is one of the important contact sports in NDA. One can  also enjoy horse riding of which training is given for 1 and a half year.
• For 3 years cadet study his bachelor's degree. Ba, Bsc and Btech.
• Physical training is hard.
• Leave- cadet get 4 week of leave in june and december in 1 annual year. Other than that there is a mid term leave also for 4 days in between the semester.

INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY

• Located in Dehradun
• Here student is known as GENTLEMAN CADET(GC)
• Training period is for 1 year and 1 and a half year. Well 1 year is for the entries X-nda and X-acc and  Technical( TGC). 1 and a half year is for Direct entry via CDS EXAM. 
• Leave - same as nda in a year for 4 weeks of leave is given and there is a midterm also of 1 week.

Adventure- there are various hikes. One of them is parajumping hike

OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMY

• Located in Chennai
• It is for short service commission. I didn't mention earlier there are two types of commissioning, one is SHORT SERVICE(SS) and another is PERMANENT COMMISION(PC) so from IMA parmanent commision officers are made whereas in ota SS officers are commissioned. Ss cannot have pension they serve for max 14 yrs but they can convert their ss into permanent  after that.
• Training is hard and here not only men are commisioned but lady officers are also commisioned into army.

 I have basically covered two academies in detail and ota in brief. There are more academies for officer commisioning  like naval academy and airforce academy but I wanted to share that information only which I am sure about.
